A gum abscess is an infection in the gums tissues that causes swelling, pain, redness,  and sometimes pus. It is usually caused by bacteria resulting from poor dental hygiene, gum disease, or gum injury. If left untreated,  The bacteria can lead to serious health complications. Fortunately, early identification and intervention can help avoid these negative outcomes. In this article, we will discuss 7 Quick home remedies to cure gum abscesses.

1) Oil Pulling

Oil pulling is an ancient practice that is used to treat mouth ailments. A study shows that it is one of the effective ways to eliminate the gum abscess. When you swish oil around the mouth, the antimicrobial properties in the oil will kill the bacteria that cause gum abscesses and reduce inflammation in the affected areas.

2) Salt Water Rinse

A gum abscess is a condition that can be extremely painful and disrupt daily life. It occurs when there is a buildup of pus in the gum tissue. Saltwater rinse is a simple, inexpensive way to help with gum abscess pain. Additionally, it can aid in infection prevention and the reduction of inflammation. This simple solution involves mixing salt with warm water and swishing it in your mouth for 2 to 5 minutes.

3) Cold Compress

Cold therapy can help to reduce swelling and inflammation and alleviate pain. Apply a cold compress to the affected area for 10 to 15 minutes,  several times a day, until the abscess has healed. This cold temperature works by constricting blood vessels, which then reduces blood flow to the affected area.

4) Aloe Vera gel

Aloe vera gel, a natural and widely available remedy, can be incredibly beneficial in managing the Gum abscess. The antibacterial and anti-inflammatory components of the gel can aid in reducing swelling, soothing the affected gum area, and speeding the healing process. Aloe vera gel can also encourage the development of new tissue, which helps to repair damaged areas.

5) Garlic

Garlic contains allicin, a substance with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects that may help ease the discomfort associated with gum abscesses. To use garlic for a gum abscess, crush a garlic clove to release the allicin and place it onto the affected area for a few minutes.

Another technique is to place a peeled, sliced garlic clove directly over the gum for 10 to 15 minutes.

6) Turmeric

According to studies, the active component of turmeric, curcumin, has anti-inflammatory properties that help stop the development of bacteria that cause gum disease. To do this at home, just make a paste by combining a small quantity of turmeric with water, then apply it to the affected area for a few minutes each day.

7) Baking Soda

Baking soda is a well-known household item that has many versatile uses. It helps in increasing the pH levels within the mouth to create an alkaline environment that helps to neutralize the harmful acids causing the abscess and can also reduce inflammation and pain.

Bottom line

If you have a Gum abscess, see a dentist immediately and get it treated because if left untreated, it could spread to other body parts. The measures mentioned above are a temporary remedy and shouldn’t be viewed as a long-term cure for gum abscess.
